Any Advice for the Interviewing Process?

QUESTION:

Hey! I'm a recent follower of your Instagram page and I find it inspiring to see your experiences as a vet student. Currently, I'm in undergraduate school and my goal is to go to vet school. I've been doing my research as to how to get into a vet school. What is your best advice for the interviewing process? What are some things I should keep in mind while being interviewed.

ANSWER:

Thanks for the follow! I’ll admit I don’t remember the details from my interview. However, I do think it is wise to approach it like you are applying for a job. These are some questions I think you should be prepared to answer:

Why veterinary medicine?

Why do you want to go to this school?

What sets you apart from the other applicants?

Why should [this committee] select you?

What are your strengths? Why? (I recommend you come up with 3)

What are your weaknesses? Why? (Once again, list 3)

Describe a moment you dealt with a stressful or high intensity situation.

What do you do for fun?

What is your biggest inspiration?

Take the time before your interviews to think about these answers in depth. By taking advantage of these questions, you can address every aspect of yourself. They provide insight to your character, mannerisms, lifestyle, and goals.
