Hello Dr. Glass. I have watched all of the Vet School episodes and it was one of the best shows ever. For me, when i grow up I want to be a vet. Animals are sometimes all I can think about. Is there anything that I can do to prepare for it? I have contacted every shelter in the area and none of them are accepting volunteers. I want to also volunteer with animals as much as I can to help. Is there anything else I could possibly do?
It's great that you are being proactive about increasing your knowledge about animals. One of the best ways to get some experience is by volunteering at a vet clinic. If you are in college, then I recommend you join a pre-vet club (or pre-med if the former isn't available). The purpose is to get you acquainted with the medical terminology and the type of coursework that's needed to apply to a graduate program if that is your goal. Finally, I would also begin binge watching a lot of natural documentaries and specials that discuss animals, their various adaptations, and their environment.
Below is a link to one of my blog posts that answers a similar question to yours. Hope this helps!
